The 2023 Kia Sorento Plug-in Hybrid is a modern, efficient take on what is already one of the most stylish and great value-for-money three-row midsize crossover SUVs in today’s market. With seating for up to seven people, modern and stylish exterior styling, and an impressive list of standard and available features, getting the family out and about in Bassett, Danville, Rocky Mount, and Greensboro has never felt so good for such a reasonable amount of money.
It’s pretty common for plug-in-hybrid versions of vehicles to be offered in fewer trim levels than their gas-powered or non-plug-in hybrid siblings, and that’s where we are with the 2023 Kia Sorento Plug-in Hybrid. Of course, it’s also usually the case that these reduced numbers of trim levels are usually slanted towards the higher end of specifications, and that’s how it is with the Sorento PHEV. There are just two trim levels to choose from, which are the entry-level SX and the higher-spec SX Prestige.
What doesn’t differ from the rest of the 2023 Sorento lineup is the way the plug-in versions look, which is pretty sensational for a vehicle with such a heavy focus on practicality and versatility. There’s a modern, sporty and aggressive look to the 2023 Sorento, which is about as far away from a minivan as you can get while still accommodating up to seven people and their stuff.
Despite its impressive styling and superb capability, the first thing most people will want to know about is the plug-in-hybrid powertrain and how it performs. Under the hood of the Sorento Plug-in Hybrid is a system based around a 1.6-liter turbo-four internal combustion engine, a 66.9-kW electric motor, and a 13.8 kWh battery. The hybrid powertrain comes in at an impressive 261 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque, which is then sent exclusively to all four wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission.
Fuel economy is always going to be one of the most important factors for anyone considering buying a PHEV at the moment, and the Sorento PHEV is rated at 35 mpg in the city, 33 mpg on the highway, and a combined 79 MPGe, thanks to its capability for up to 32 miles of electric-only driving.
Kia is well-known for being generous with standard equipment, and the 2023 Sorento is no exception. Every version of the Sorento Plug-in Hybrid has automatic emergency braking, active lane control, adaptive cruise control, rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, and the SX Premium also comes with a surround-view camera system.
Other standard SX features include 19-inch alloy wheels, LED lights, a smart power liftgate, navigation, wireless phone charging, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
There may be bigger and more luxurious three-row midsize crossovers around than the 2023 Kia Sorento Plug-in Hybrid, but it’s hard to think what they might be unless you are going to spend half as much again or more on something with a luxury badge on the front. The Sorento PHEV is a sensational all-round package with impressive fuel economy, so come and check it out for yourself a test drive from Nelson Kia at our dealership here at 4730 Virginia Ave, Bassett, VA, or give us a call at (276) 647-1775 for information and to schedule a test drive for a time that suits you.
