The Niro Plug-in Hybrid features the same engine, but this time it’s paired with a 62-kW electric motor and an 11.1-kWh lithium-ion polymer battery. The result is a combined output of 180 horsepower and 195 lb.-ft. of torque and an electric-only driving range of 33 miles, another improvement over the previous Niro.
A great value package
The striking new exterior styling, the impressive interior, and the staggering fuel economy are enough to grab the attention of compact crossover shoppers. The entry-level Niro Hybrid LX gets standard 16-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, high beam assist, remote keyless entry, dual-zone climate control, and an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
The EX is one grade higher and costs a little more, but it upgrades you to a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with SiriusXM Satellite Radio, voice recognition, wireless phone charging, and push-button start. Standard EX features also include remote start, ambient lighting, leather and cloth upholstery, a 10-way power driver’s seat, and heated front seats. The EX also gets a few more standard safety features such as Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Navigation-Based Smart Cruise Control w/ Stop & Go, Highway Driving Assist, and rear parking sensors.
