If anyone can come up with a new vehicle currently for sale in Bassett, Danville, Rocky Mount, Greensboro, or anywhere else that delivers as much for the price as the 2023 Kia Telluride, it would be great to hear what it is. The Telluride is a large SUV that comfortably seats up to eight people, has a decent level of off-road capability, offers some of the best safety credentials in its class, and also manages to look great at the same time. The 2023 model is a mid-cycle refresh, which Kia has somehow managed to make even better than the original.
As well as being great value for money at every level, the 2023 Kia Telluride also offers more trim levels than anything else in its class for shoppers to choose from. On top of its already winning formula, the refreshed Telluride for 2023 gets notable technology updates, more sophisticated driver-assist features, new front and rear fascias with standard LED lights, and some smart new alloy wheel designs. To improve the Kia’s off-road credentials, the X-Line and X-Pro trim levels feature standard all-wheel drive, increased ground clearance, improved approach and departure angles, a new tow mode, and some off-road cosmetic enhancements.
The 2023 lineup gets underway with the impressive LX and then goes to the S, EX, EX X-Line, SX, SX X-Line, SX X-Pro, SX Prestige, SX Prestige X-Line, and top-of-the-range SX Prestige X-Pro.
The most significant difference between the GT-Line and GT2 versions of the 2023 Kia Stinger is what’s going on that you can’t see by looking at them. The GT-Line has recently benefitted from a power upgrade, and its 2.5-liter turbo-four engine now produces an impressive 300 horsepower and 311 lb.-ft. of torque. Instead of a turbo-four, the GT2 boasts a 3.3-liter twin-turbo V-6 that puts out 368 horsepower and 376 lb.-ft. of torque. Both models send their power to the front wheels in standard form through an eight-speed automatic transmission, but both can be upgraded to AWD if you prefer.
However, the GT2 also gets a standard limited-slip differential, electronically controlled suspension, Sport Variable Gear Ratio (VGR) Rack, Brembo brakes, and the available AWD system includes Dynamic Torque Vectoring Control. As you might imagine, the two models also diverge in terms of fuel economy. The GT-Line with standard rear-wheel-drive gets you 22 mpg in the city, 32 mpg on the highway, and 25 mpg combined, which compares to 18/25/20 mpg for the GT2.
You’re not going to be able to get it in and out of the tightest spaces in the parking lot, but you can rest assured that the 2023 Kia Telluride can manage just about anything else you could reasonably ask of it. Eight of the ten models can tow up to 5,000 pounds, while the SX Pro and SX Prestige X-Pro models can deal with an extra 500 pounds for a 5,500-pound maximum tow rating. You can also enjoy decent off-road capability with the Telluride, especially when choosing one of the X-Line and X-Pro variants.
The 2023 Kia Telluride exterior looks better and even more rugged than it did already, and things get even better when you sit inside. The interior is beautiful and well-proportioned to a standard you wouldn’t expect at this level and this price. Up to eight people can be comfortably accommodated with plenty of room for cargo. Even with the third row up and occupied, you still have 21 cu.-ft. of cargo space available behind. The entry-level Telluride SX features standard 18-inch alloys, LED lights, synthetic leather upholstery, a 12.3-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and loads of active safety tech. Therefore, you can probably imagine how impressive the standard specification is for the SX Prestige X-Pro, sitting nine levels higher in the 2023 lineup.
Delivering a refreshed model when the original was as universally acclaimed as the Telluride isn’t easy, but Kia has managed to pull it off. The 2023 Kia Telluride builds on the rock-solid foundations of its predecessor to deliver a large SUV that’s better and even better value than it was already.
