Learning how to jump-start another car is easy if you know the correct procedure. Here are some tips on how to correctly jump-start another car.

  • To start, both vehicles need to be moved so that the engines are as close as possible to work safely between them.
  • Turn the car engine off and be certain that both of the vehicles are in park.
  • Open the hoods, look for the positive and negative terminals on each battery. Many times, the positive terminal is going to be wider.
  • The jumper cables are black and red, red to the positive first on bad battery, the other red cable can now be connected to the positive side of the charged car battery.
  • The black jumper cables go to good battery first, then exposed metal on the car needing the jump-start.
